The History Beneath Hell’s Dungeon

Before it became a Halloween haunted attraction, this building served a very different purpose.

Hell’s Dungeon was once an Elder Beerman department store, an anchor of the Beerman Towns that supported shopping and daily life for families working in the surrounding automotive industry. When the store closed, the building didn’t empty it transitioned.

For years, it operated as a bingo hall, hosting regular crowds and community gatherings. Eventually, it was left vacant.

Over time, the building endured two separate fires, leaving behind damage, loss, and disruption. During its history, a man passed away inside the building from a heart attack, an event that continues to be referenced by staff and investigators alike.

Today, the space is known as Hell’s Dungeon, a terrifying Halloween haunted attraction during the spooky season and select times throughout the year. But when the props are still and the actors are gone, the building remains active.

Some spirits may be tied to the building’s past.
Others may have arrived later.

The sheer number of artifacts, props, and set pieces used in the haunted house scenes appear to have brought additional energy into the space, objects with their own histories, intentions, and attachments.
