THE HISTORY OF AMBER ROSE
The building that now houses Amber Rose Restaurant was constructed in 1910 by Sigmund Ksiezopolski.
Originally operating as Sig’s General Store and Deli, the space quickly became a gathering place for Dayton’s North Dayton Polish community. Sig and his family lived upstairs while the main floor served customers from the surrounding neighborhood.
The upstairs area functioned as both living quarters and a recreation space where family and neighbors gathered regularly. For many in the community, the building was not just a business, it was a central part of everyday life.
Over the years, visitors and staff have reported sightings in the upstairs windows, most often of a woman believed to be Chickie, Sig’s daughter, who was frequently seen watching the neighborhood from the upper level during her lifetime.
Her presence remains one of the most commonly reported experiences tied to the building.
