The Randolph County Asylum, also known as the Randolph County Infirmary, was built in the late 1800s to house society’s most vulnerable, those who were poor, elderly, disabled, mentally ill, or simply had nowhere else to go. Like many county asylums of the era, care often blurred into confinement, and survival was prioritized over comfort.
Today, the building remains one of Indiana’s most quietly unsettling historic locations.
Guests and investigators have reported footsteps in empty hallways, voices and whispers when no one else is present, shadow figures, and strong emotional responses in certain rooms. Some areas feel calm. Others feel heavy. The asylum has a way of letting you know when you’ve entered a space with a story to tell.
